The 31st Annual Englewood Bank & Trust Invitational Art Festival is just around the corner. Sixty of the nation’s top award winning fine artists and craftsmen will be set up Saturday and Sunday, January 28 - January 29, from 10 am – 5 pm on the grounds of Englewood Bank & Trust’s main branch at 1111 S. McCall Road in Englewood. This showcase of original art will feature the work of professional artists in every media including painting, large sculpture, hand crafted jewelry, glass blowing, printmaking, pottery, hand made paper and drawing.

This year’s show is special because it’s the 12th anniversary for local artist, Carroll Swayze as the director of the festival, a job that Swayze takes very seriously. Swayze, who has maintained her working art studio in Englewood, Florida for almost 40 years, was recently elected as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Independent Artists. The NAIA is a trade advocacy group whose mission is to strengthen, improve and promote the artistic, professional and economic success of artists who exhibit in art shows. This national group is committed to integrity, creativity and pursuit of excellence and they advocate for the highest ideals and practices within all aspects of the art show environment.

“I have been an artist all my life,” said Swayze. “I started doing shows when I was 14 and have seen the art show business grow and change over those 40 some years. I believe that artists are unique and unusual and should be supported for the original work that they do because art truly enriches people lives. I work hard each year to find new and exciting work from all over the country and I am proud to bring those artists to Englewood each year. The art festival doesn’t just bring 60 artists to Englewood but it also helps to bring new people to our community (both artists and visitors to the show) who stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants and in many cases come back for vacations on our beaches or buy homes to live when they see how artist friendly our community is.”

This year’s showcase has something for everyone, from hand made clothing to large original paintings. Everything in the show has to be made by hand by the artist who creates it which makes the Englewood Bank & Trust Invitational Art Festival very special and different from many of the festivals during the year.

“I hand pick the artists who come to my show and I love to see the reaction that people have when they see their work. Nokomis painter, Tom Krause will be here with his incredible marine paintings as well as sculptor Dustin Cole from Cortez who will be exhibiting his large sport fish wood sculptures. The intricate clay work of Dunedin artist Ira Burhans, the colorful tropical watercolors of Port St. Lucie’s Stephanie Pollack, and the lifelike wood carvings of Michael Van Houzen coming from Holland, Michigan are also among the artists in the show. Dave Bruner from Sarasota will be back with his labor intensive wood engravings as well as Miami pastel artist, Dan Bondroff and Michigan printmaker, Marina Terauds with her etchings. Internationally we have Sandy Cline with his soapstone carvings and new this year, artist Ann Suzuki with her incredible batik hand made silk clothing. It’s going to be a great show”

This years show also features many local artists from our community. Venice, Englewood, Boca Grande, Port Charlotte and North Port will be represented when Jim Sears, Ben Essenberg, Al De La Vega, Jake Rhoads, Karen Nolan, Sally Storsberg, Nanette Hopkins, Diane Mannion, Dana Krzewina, Esther Horton, Rita Schwab, Julie Salvetti, Maria Saax Bone, The Wessel’s, Mel Landon, George Dennenberg, Debbie Marucci, Rich Fizer and Carroll Swayze participate in the show.

The Englewood Bank & Trust Invitational Art Festival is a great art collecting opportunity for local homeowners and visitors as well as being a wonderful way to spend a day relaxing and enjoying art in a casual setting. You can literally buy a piece of original art for less than the price of dinner and a movie if you choose. Englewood Bank & Trust will provide plenty of free parking.

The hours of the art show are from 10 am to 5 pm both Saturday and Sunday, January 28 - January 29, and the public is invited to enjoy a day with fine artists and craftsmen from around the world.
